The school of Bible Insititute for the Deaf

The BIBLE INSTITUTE FOR THE DEAF (BID) was started by the Rev. S. Wayne Shaneyfelt, a missionary of the Philippines General Council of the Assemblies of God. He came to the Philippines in October 1962 with the desire to share with the deaf spiritual truths, academic and vocational training and communication skills. He went to many places and schools in the country teaching Sign Language to the deaf and the hearing and opening Bible Studies and church services for the deaf. Seeing the need of more training for the deaf who received Godís call  to Christian services, he helped three deaf enroll in a hearing Bible school. He and other hearing students of his Sign Language classes served as interpreters for them. Later, when more deaf got interested and enrolled in the program, he saw the need to develop facilities for the deaf.

In 1971, the deaf moved to the new facilities. This attracted many parents who desired education for their children in a Christian school. Starting as a ministerial school for post high school students, BID opened its doors to pre-elementary and elementary children. In 1988, BID received the permit and in May 1996, government recognition. BID received another permit for opening a secondary department in April 2005.
